Italian musical theater is one of the best known and most appreciated art forms in the world.
The MTNT project - "Musical Theatre and New Technologies: Toward a New Paradigm in Opera Studies and Performance" has as its overall objective the recovery and enhancement of Italian opera abroad through the use of new technological research tools (digital humanities, digital philology, webhosting infrastructures) and new performance strategies based on the latest acquisitions in the digital field (artificial intelligence, virtual reality, metaverse).
Through the development of four case studies, the project activities will invest the field of research, teaching, artistic production and dissemination according to an interdisciplinary perspective (music, dance, acting, cinema, visual arts) involving a wide network of Italian and foreign afam and university institutions.
One of the milestones of MTNT is the activation of four PhDs related to the project themes and focused on the digital transition, entrusted to a consortium led by the University of Padua in association with four Italian afams and as many foreign universities (Florida Atlantic University, Royal Conservatory of Brussels, University of Athens and Szczecin).
Through PhDs it will be possible to crea re an international network of academic institutions, develop research pathways related to the digital transition, foster the mobility of young researchers, and disseminate and capitalize on project results in the medium and long term. Research activities will have an immediate impact on teaching and artistic production.
It is planned to organize three permanent workshops on seventeenth-century, eighteenth-century and contemporary Italian opera that will be based in Italy for the duration of the project and will involve students and academic staff from the institutions of the Erasmus partnership of the implementing afams (over six hundred agreements).
