Children's chorus beginners

Overview

The prep course, entrusted to the artistic coordination of Bruno Casoni, provides, over a period of 2 years, a basic musical training that leads young singers to their insertion in the Children's Choir of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.

The course, which is attended twice a week, introduces students to the operatic and symphonic-choral repertoire.

First year: October 2025 to June 2026
Second year: September 2026 to June 2027

Two lessons per week, Tuesday and Friday

  • from 5pm to 6pm for the first year
  • from 5.45pm to 7pm for the second year.

Choral practice

  • Study of pieces of gradually increasing difficulty (from monody to polyphony) to learn to decode the Maestro's gesture respecting the timing and dynamics, develop harmony between the voices, take care of the sound emission and intonation in relation to the others voices, develop the ability to listen between the different sections to achieve the fusion of the voices into the single voice of the choir

  • Development of harmony between voices
  • Care of emission and intonation (also in relation to other voices)
  • Simple monodic songs
  • Canons and songs for 2 or more voices
  • Care of the color of the section and the choir
  • Study of the main operatic/symphonic repertoire of the children's choir

To access the course it is necessary to pass a selection process which consists of:

  • sung performance of a song;
  • verification of rhythmic and intonation skills.

 

The selections will be held approximately on 24 September 2025, in Milan, at the Academia Teatro alla Scala, in via Santa Marta 18.

 

Candidates must perform a piece chosen from the two listed below:

 Benjamin Britten, Un canto per l’anno nuovo (from Friday Afternoons) 

 Giacomo Puccini, Là, sui monti dell’est (da Turandot)

 

 

 

To submit an application, a parent or the legal guardian must register or login to the Academy enrollment platform at iscrizioni.accademialascala.it

 

The system will ask for candidate's personal data in a second step and it will propose the "Terms & Conditions", a document that must be signed and re-attached and which contains important contractual details, such as the right of withdrawal.

After completing this step, you will be asked to enter the attachments for each course, detailed into the brochure (if you have not already downloaded it, do so now!).

Then, the system will ask you to pay the fee, either by credit card or by online transfer, directly from the same registration screen (banks in the MyBank circuit are accepted: check first that yours is there).

 

At the end, a pdf will be generated summarising all the data entered, which must be signed and attached.

At this point, the enrolment is complete and goes directly to the Students' Office.

The Academy has agreements with accommodation, restaurants, theatres, cinemas and other shops, from which students can benefit - by presenting their ID card - or even candidates for selection, by presenting their full registration.
