Second level course for ballet instructors

Overview

The Course in ballet instruction is a Second-Level Academic Diploma Program which trains ballet instructors of the highest professional caliber.

The two-year program follows and complements the three-year teacher program, expanding subjects already covered and refining some teachings.

Be in possession of one of the following qualifications:
  • First level academic diploma
  • Degree or equivalent qualification awarded by Italian universities
  • foreign qualifications equivalent to those mentioned above.

Foreign students will be required to have foreign qualifications equivalents.

Each year lasts from November 1st to October 31st of the following year.

Course attendance is compulsory to an extent of no less than less than 80% of the totality of the training activities, with the exclusion of individual individual study.

The attendance for each individual course of teaching (discipline) may in no case be less than two thirds of the total number of hours of training activities training activity, excluding individual study.

The examination session will be held in July, September and January.

A ballet teacher during a lesson in a dance hall

The course, which completes the programme covered in the three-year course, enables students to acquire the technical and stylistic skills to carry out professional activities in the field of ballet.

It also provides students with the skills to undertake the activity of ballet teacher in schools of all levels and, more generally, in any context involving the planning and implementation of a dance lesson.

Scholarships

On the basis of funding provided by Regione Lombardia, annual scholarships are available to students who pass the selection process and request one. Students whose ISEE (Equivalent Financial Status Indicator) for university study meets requisites and who have obtained all prerequisite academic credits are eligible to apply for an annual scholarship.

Scholarships are assigned only after the allocation of funds by Regione Lombardia and the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR). Instructions for applying for a scholarship will be provided in a specific announcement.

 

Merit loans

Academy has underwritten agreements with certain banks to ensure that students in good standing can benefit from other forms of financial aid to cover tuition or lodging costs.

Qualifications obtained abroad must be enclosed together with their legal recognition, as required by Italian law.

In particular:

  • if the qualification is acquired in a European country, a sworn translation is required;
  • if the qualification is acquired in a non-European country, the declaration of value in situ is required.

 

The Italian translation of the curriculum vitae must also be attached.

In addition, candidates resident outside the European Union must follow the visa application procedure by registering and uploading their documents on the Universitaly.it platform 

Students with physical or learning disabilities are entitled to compensatory measures.

The appropriate certification must be submitted during the application process.

  • Applicants who have successfully completed the La Scala Academy’s First-Level Academic Diploma Program in Ballet Instruction (DDPL01) are directly admitted.
  • Those holding a three-year diploma from other academies are required to pass the exams for the courses Ballet Teaching Method and Planning 1 and 2 before being admitted to the program.

  • Those holding a three-year diploma from other academies in Technique and Composition (Triennio Tecnico Compositivo) or Contemporary Ballet (Triennio Contemporaneo) are required to pass the exams for the courses Ballet Technique 1 and 2 and Ballet Teaching Method and Planning 1 and 2.

  • Applicants holding other types of academic certificates are required to pass an entrance exam consisting of:

- an audition;
- a theory test.

The content and method of this entrance exam will be published on this website on or before January 31, 2025. The tests will be held in September 2025.

Register and/or login to the Academy enrollment platform at iscrizioni.accademialascala.it.

The system will ask for personal data and will propose the "Terms & Conditions", a document that must be signed and re-attached and which contains important contractual details, such as the right of withdrawal.

After completing this step, you will be asked to enter the attachments for each course, detailed in the brochure (if you have not already downloaded it, do so now!).

 

Then, you will be asked to pay the fee, either by credit card or by online transfer directly from the same registration screen (banks in the MyBank circuit are accepted: check first that yours is there).

 

At the end, a pdf will be generated summarising all the data entered, which must be signed and attached.

At this point, the enrolment is complete and goes directly to the Students' Office.
