Every year the students have the opportunity to perform in repertoire titles, as well as
choreographies exceptionally granted or created specifically for the School.
On these occasions, they work with internationally renowned choreographers.
Length and attendance
The full Ballet School course covers eight years. At the end
of each of the first seven years, the students must pass
a final exam in order to be admitted to the following year. At the end of the 8 level, students have the diploma exam.
School years run
from September to
June.
The attendance is mandatory, Monday
through Friday for levels
1–5 and Monday through
Saturday for higher levels.
Levels 1–3 meet in the
afternoon; levels 4–7 meet
from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
Choice of course
Those who attend a class between the last primary and the upper secondary
school in the year 2023-24 can apply for the selections, as described here
below according to the Italian system (while those who study following systems
schools other than the Italian one
must consult
this page ):
External students
The Examining Committee may decide to admit candidates to Course Level
7 who have not received a fully positive physical aptitude assessment and/
or are 18 or 19 years old on August 31, 2024, if they demonstrate sufficient
requisites for admission to the Ballet School. Such candidates are admitted
as “external students”.
After successfully completing Level 8, external
students will receive a Certificate of Attendance instead of a Diploma in
Classical and Modern/ Contemporary Ballet.
Selection Process
Candidates for admission to the Ballet School must
pass a selection process consisting of an audition
and a medical exam.
Candidates must accept all provisions
contained into the course announcement to be admitted
to the selection process. Please, read the announcement for all the details.
The selection path for courses 1 to 3 is different from the other courses.
No previous
experience is necessary to apply for the first course, since this
level starts from the basics.
Candidates to Course Levels 1–3
shall prepare a VIDEO of themselves
performing the exercises illustrated
in the demo video provided by the
Academy.
The video does not need to be of
professional quality; it must be
uploaded to the Academy’s Office
365 platform -
the instructions are available here.
The audition to Course Levels 4–7
comprises an IN-PERSON physical
aptitude and technique test.
They will be asked to execute a
partial or full class (at the discretion
of the Examining Committee) from
the course level corresponding to
the candidate’s age.
All the candidates who pass the first phase of selection are subject to a medical exam. Those who apply for courses 1, 2 and 3, after passing the medical exam, are admitted to a trial period, while candidates to level 4 to 7, after passing the medical exam, are directly admitted to the attendance.

Compulsory schooling
Students admitted to the Ballet School must meet all compulsory schooling
requirements.
Since admission to the Ballet School is not guaranteed, parents of prospective
students should pre-enroll their child at their local school.
By virtue of the special agreement between the Academy and the Pietro Longone
boarding school in Milan, students at the Ballet School may attend:
- the Pietro Longone middle school;
- the Pietro Longone/Accademia Teatro alla Scala experimental high school
with specialization in dance.
Students admitted to the Ballet School and planning to attend the Pietro Longone
middle or high school must notify the Pietro Longone school directly to obtain
instructions for enrollment and payment of fees and tuition.

SCHOLARSHIPS, SPECIAL RATES, EXEMPTIONS
(Not applicable to external students)
The Academy makes every effort to assist worthy aspirants
with financial aid to meet tuition costs. Various
options are available, including scholarships, student
loans, or tuition exemptions. After the student has passed
the selection process, requests for financial aid shall be submitted
at the time of enrollment in the 2024-2025 academic
year, including the family’s equivalent financial status indicator
(ISEE form, as of July 31, 2024).
Financial aid cannot be guaranteed to every family requesting
it. The Academy will evaluate each request on a case-by-case
basis.

International students and Italian residing abroad
Candidates who pass the selection process and are not residents
of an EU member state must submit all documents required by
law and by the Italian Public Security Authorities (temporary
residence permit for reasons of study [permesso di soggiorno
per motivi di studio] or receipt of application for the same)
covering the period from September 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025, as
well as all documentation requested for the selection process,
including all medical documentation, translated into Italian.
